Savannah September Happenings

September 19th - 21st | Forsyth Park & Plant Riverside District
Savannah’s Jazz Festival hits a major milestone this year, rooted in the Coastal Jazz Association’s 1981 mission to cultivate live jazz, education, and community in the Hostess City of the South. From its inaugural concert at Grayson Stadium in 1983 to today’s free, city-wide performances culminating under the live oaks of Forsyth Park, the Festival is a living tribute to local legends and a bold note in Savannah’s continuing musical legacy. This year’s lineup is a soulful mash-up of local legends, world-class icons like Spyro Gyra and Kirk Whalum, and jazzy tributes dropping truth bombs on tradition and pushing Savannah’s swing into the future.

Festival Season – From the Savannah Jazz Festival to Hilton Head’s Rhythm & Brews, the Lowcountry comes alive with music, food, and culture.
-
Smaller Crowds – With summer tourists gone and snowbirds not yet here, it’s easier to explore without the lines.
-
Beach Days Without the Heatwave – Tybee Island and Hilton Head beaches are still warm enough to swim, but much less crowded.
-
Farmers Markets & Harvest Season – Local produce, seafood, and fall flavors are at their freshest and most abundant.
-
Historic Charm in Full Bloom – Savannah’s oak trees draped in Spanish moss and Beaufort’s waterfront views feel extra magical in early fall light.
-
Affordable Stays – Hotel rates often dip between peak summer and the holiday rush, making September a sweet spot for budget-savvy travelers.
-
Local Community Vibes – Neighborhood cookouts, porch concerts, and smaller-town festivals in Richmond Hill, Pooler, and Effingham offer authentic Lowcountry experiences.

Every event is a love letter to our community - live music under the oaks, makers’ markets, food that tastes like home - aka the highlight reel of why people fall hard for life here.
